Second Annual Sportfest Kicks Off, Promises to be Bigger and Better

May 10, 2012 - ST. JOHN’S – Sportfest is back! Sport Newfoundland and Labrador’s three-day, interactive festival runs from May 10 to 12, and features provincial sport organizations showcasing sports that are currently available throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Approximately 5,000 children from 29 schools across the Avalon Peninsula will have the opportunity to try both team and individual sports over the next few days.

Part B Coaching Course

May 7, 2012 - Part B will be offered Friday, June 22nd (6:00 pm-10:00 pm) and Saturday, June 23 (9:00 am-5:00 pm) at the Sport NL Building (1296A Kenmount Road).
This course is open to coaches of all sports and aimed at coaches who are relatively new to coaching and likely coach at the community level.

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Announces 2012 Scholarship Recipients

May 4, 2012 - ST. JOHN’S – Sport Newfoundland and Labrador has announced the scholarship recipients of the 2012 Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Program. Nineteen scholarships were awarded today at a reception at the Johnson Geo Centre.
“These scholarship winners are true examples of excellence in sport,” said Minister Dalley. “It is very important to acknowledge their accomplishments, both academic and athletic, and to encourage them in their chosen sport.”

NL Shooter Competes ISSF World Cup Munich

May 23, 2012, Shooting NL - Ben Taylor finished his first ISSF World Cup competition this morning in Munich, Germany. Ben fired 575 out of 600 in the Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) group. This score exceeded the MQS of 570, earning his the right to compete for the World Cup in future competitions. Typically shooters who are new to the World Cup circuit or have already won quota spots to the Summer Olympics shot the MQS category. Incredible Results for Swimming NL Provincial Team

April 29, 2012, Swimming NL - The NL Swimming Provincial Team is competing at the Ralph Hicken International Swim Meet in Toronto this weekend with incredible results. The team has 12 female and 12 male swimmers from across the province in their preparation for Canada Games next summer. The meet consists of the top Ontario age group swimmers where the Newfoundland athletes can measure their progress while training through the meet.

April 24, 2012, Bicycle NL - Newfoundland and Labrador will host the inaugural Gros Morne GranFondo, a big ride for serious cyclists and fitness enthusiasts on Sunday September 2, 2012.
