Scholarship Criteria
The purpose of the Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship
Program is to provide financial
assistance to qualifying amateur
athletes, coaches / officials to
help offset the costs of
training and competition.
In order to be eligible to receive Athlete Assistance, athletes,
coaches / officials must meet
the following criteria:
1.
Athletes, coaches / officials must be residents of Newfoundland
and Labrador.
2.
Athletes, coaches / officials must be registered members of a
provincial sport organization
recognized by the Department of
Municipal and Provincial
Affairs.
3.
Athletes must be competitive at the national level or have
national level potential.
Athletes training for Canada
Games or provincial teams may
also be considered.
4.
Athletes must, if eligible, compete for Newfoundland and Labrador
at Canada Games, National and
Atlantic competitions.
5.
Athletes must train in Newfoundland and Labrador. Exceptions will
be made as long as the athlete
can substantiate (in writing)
that:

he/she cannot receive the required level of training in
Newfoundland and Labrador. This
could be due to lack of
facilities, coaching,
competition, etc.
§
he/she must attend a post-secondary institution out-of-province
because the course of study is
not available in Newfoundland
and Labrador.
§
It is more financially feasible to attend a post-secondary
institution out-of-province.
6.
Athletes carded under the Fitness and Amateur Sport Athlete
Assistance Program are not
eligible.
7.
Athletes attending U.S. Colleges and Universities on full or
part-time scholarships are not
eligible.
8.
Athletes must be attending an educational institution on a
full-time basis. Exceptions will
be made providing the athletes
can substantiate (in writing)
that his/her training program
will not allow him/her to attend
school full-time.
